The place to start
My temporary studio is often the starting point of my paintings. The space itself, its history, and my experience of it as a workplace are sources of inspiration. Decay and transience play a role, as does the possibility of giving a space a new meaning. Through drawing and photography, I gather ideas that continue to evolve during the painting process. I let go of the original idea and work intuitively, building the painting layer by layer. Paintings are rarely finished right away; sometimes they travel with me for years, until an unexpected moment brings clarity. A bird flying past, an open window — such metaphors connect inside and outside, past and present. Then everything falls into place. Painting requires patience and perseverance.
